The City of Marbles

Carol, Pat and ladies are back from their latest trip to Dubai, Seychelles and Kenya! Wow, talk about doing it all. They had to pack for three climates - hot, humid and conservative Dubai, sun hat and swimsuit for the Seychelles and safari wear for Kenya. It's amazing the ladies did not have an entourage of suitcases!

Dubai through Carol's eyes was a City of Marbles - "Everywhere you looked, there was marble, gold and luxury...all in the middle of the desert! But before we get ahead of ourselves, let me tell you about our flight across the pond. We flew on Emirates out of Los Angeles for Dubai. No doubt, we were greeted with some of the most comfortable airplane seats. Even our tallest traveler had no trouble fitting into the seats. The meals on board were also some of the best our seasoned travelers have had. They truly know how to do modern air travel right on Emirates. American, Delta and United - maybe take a lesson or two from Emirates?

When we arrived in Dubai, we were shuttled to our hotel - the Conrad Dubai. Our hotel was the newest hotel in Dubai, being open only for 6 months. We received our room keys by 10:30PM. The Conrad is a beautiful Marble Palace. Our room (#3119) faced the ocean and at night we could see the lights...it was glorious and in the morning, we expected a perfect ocean sunrise. And sure enough, our expectations were met.

The next day, we toured Dubai. Of course, who could miss the Burj Khalifa! When I think of Dubai, this particular building comes to mind. It is the tallest building there and until recently, held the title of being the tallest building in the world. We rode up all the way up to the top, looked around, oohed and ahhed, took pictures and rode all the way back down. Since I have been up to the Sear Towers, and the Empire State Building...obviously both of which are much shorter than this "Bird," even though the view is different, the experience is really not that different. Nevertheless, it's kind of like a rite of passage to say that "I've been to the Burj."

Pat was snapping pictures left and right throughout the trip...we are still waiting for her to share them with us!
