Cruisin' in the Seychelles

After two nights in Dubai, Carol, Pat and the ladies thought they would find cooler weather in the Seychelles...unfortunately, the weather there was much like that of Hawaii in the summertime - hot and humid. But they quickly forgot about as they turned our attention to the paradise-like beauty of the beaches. The ladies cruised on a luxury yacht by Variety Cruises for three nights and four days. Everyday, they woke up a different island.

The verdict is that the Seychelles is exotic and beautiful but for those who don't want to travel so far to find the tropics, Hawaii is a near cousin in feel and weather. It is the quintessential of paradise unspoiled. The Seychelles reminded many of our travelers of Hawaii - in the old days when buildings were not taller than 3 floors and there weren't many tourist...yet. However, different from Hawaii, Carol noticed that there were a lot of international groups of travelers from all over the world.

There are endless stretches of white sand beaches, palm trees and coconuts on the islands. Snorkeling of the coast was a highlight: the coral was remarkable and there were beautiful fishes of every color of the rainbow. The seafood was good eatin' too - there was a seafood marketplace on one of the island with rows after rows of fish.

The cabins about 150 square feet and there were 26 cabins on the yacht.  The captain of our yacht was a hoot as he added to our yachting experience! The night of the Captain's Dinner, he took off his tie and jacket and belted La Bamba in his charming Cuban accent. The food aboard the cruise was highly Indian-influenced with lots of scrumptious curries. Being the "fine dessert connoisseur," Carol found delight in all the sweet custards and baked goods, most with a Parisian flair.
